He previously served as Senior Legal Director at a multinational pharmaceutical company, leading corporate strategies in intellectual property, regulatory affairs, strategic litigation, public procurement, data privacy, competition law, anti-corruption frameworks, and complex negotiations.

He is recognized for designing innovative, comprehensive, and multidisciplinary strategies to protect, strengthen, and optimize health innovation portfolios, always with a patient-centered approach. His achievements include maximizing patent lifecycles and safeguarding strategic assets through mechanisms such as data exclusivity, patent term restoration, patent linkage in official gazettes, and rights derived from government procurement laws, international treaties, and regulatory frameworks. He has also represented companies in key negotiations of NAFTA/USMCA, the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), and the Mexico–EU Free Trade Agreement, defending data protection and pharmaceutical patents.

At the board level, he has been a member of pharmaceutical and medical device industry boards in Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, and Puerto Rico, contributing to the development of compliance frameworks, corporate governance, and business strategy.

He has collaborated with industry associations and forums such as FIFARMA, AMIIF, CANIFARMA, AmCham, and ICC, strengthening dialogue with governments, regulators, and international organizations.

In the academic field, he has been a tenured Professor of Law at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) since 2000, teaching Intellectual Property, Life Sciences Law, and Healthcare Advertising Law. He is a Level I member of Mexico’s National System of Researchers and has coordinated reference works on pharmaceutical innovation and intellectual property. He has also been a speaker at international forums across the Americas, Europe, and the Caribbean.

His academic background includes a Ph.D. in Law with honors from UNAM (2005), an LL.M. from Syracuse University (2022), postdoctoral studies in New Technologies and Law (Reggio Calabria, 2020), specializations in European Community Law and Private International Law from the University of Salamanca (1999), and a Master’s in Law from UNAM (2003). He is currently pursuing a second Ph.D. at the University of Salamanca, focused on data exclusivity protection within the framework of the EU–Mexico Free Trade Agreement.

He is an active member of GLIPA, ASIPI, AMPPI, and other prominent Latin American law and intellectual property associations.
